What is the Quilt Project?
For more than a year now, thousands of people across Lancaster County, PA - where this project is based - have found common ground in working together to protect our homes, history and heritage against a threat that none of us asked for: the Atlantic Sunrise Pipeline.
Williams Gas Co's Atlantic Sunrise pipeline - proposed to run through Pennsylvania farms, homes and woodlands - is an attempt by billionaire CEOs to hold our values hostage in exchange for their own profit.
The Protect PA Quilt Project will be made up of scores of quilt squares submitted by individuals, families, churches, organizations and businesses across our county, our state, and our nation.
This project is an opportunity to join together with hundreds—maybe thousands—of others to form a powerful, quilted, collective declaration that says:
Our most basic American values are not for sale. When there is a threat to our collective sacred trust, Pennsylvanians must come together to celebrate what we have in common.
Why A Quilt?
In Lancaster County, quilts reflect some of our strongest virtues: hard work, group effort, quiet determination, and a passion for producing beauty with our own hands. Some believe this quilt could become the largest in PA history. Together, let’s make history with this quilt by showing that Pennsylvania values are worth more than a pipeline.
Participating is Simple:
Express in a personalized quilt square what you most love, treasure or value about the land, people, or heritage of Lancaster County or Pennsylvania. Schoolchildren and grandparents, builders and bakers, farmers and teachers, veteran quilters and those who’ve never sewn a stitch in your life—together we can declare:
We reject this pipeline because our land, our families, and our way of life are not playthings for corporate greed.
